More than 1,200 people have come together to share the community spirit and celebrate the special place they call home at Campbelltown Council’s Love Leumeah pop-up event on Saturday 18 August.
The family friendly community hub, which was organised by Campbelltown Council’s Place and Projects team, was held in the heart of the suburb.
It was a celebration of the works undertaken as part of Council’s Love Leumeah place making project as well as a chance to bring Leumeah residents together and spread the love.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said Love Leumeah exceeded Council’s expectations with around 1,200 individuals passing through the event over the course of the day.
“The response from local residents and business owners has been overwhelmingly positive with many thanking Council for hosting the family friendly event,’’ he said.
The Place and Projects team engaged with over 300 individuals, seeking their feedback on the works undertaken and asking their details for future communication. There was a mix of residents, some new to Leumeah and others who have lived in Leumeah for 40+ years.
Most were pleased with the works that had taken place in Leumeah and admired how much cleaner it was and how much more colour has been injected into the area.
“Overall, the Love Leumeah Community Hub was a beautiful display of social cohesion with a coming together of the community to celebrate a place they love,’’ Cr Brticevic said.
Love Leumeah included a range of market stalls selling fresh food and produce, craft items and hot food as well as an edible planting activity for children.
There was a community art workshop where residents could add their personal touch to Leumeah by decorating love hearts and hanging them along the fence, as well as giant games, table tennis, free face painting and live music from Dani Madeline and The Honey Sippers.
“The event’s success demonstrates the value of local activation and community gatherings,” Cr Brticevic said.
