Council is undertaking a review of the future planning and development of Gisborne and its town centre.
The Gisborne Futures project encompasses a review of two major planning projects; the Gisborne Structure Plan and the Gisborne Town Centre Urban Design Framework, and will address issues such as how to:
retain the Gisborne ‘village’ character accommodate future land uses such as retail, office, housing, schools and community services to meet the town’s needs better manage traffic and parking enhance streetscaping in the town centre enable economic development and future employment opportunities guide the appearance and types of buildings in residential areas and the Town Centre provide for open space linkages, cycle and pedestrian paths protect important views and landscapes.The project will run until the end of 2019, with several opportunities for the community to get involved and have their say. The first stage of consultation will include a series of events throughout September and October to provide information to residents about the review, answer questions and talk to people about their ideas and aspirations for Gisborne.
Information sessionsCouncil is holding two information sessions on Saturday 22 September and Wednesday 26 September from 10am to 1pm in the Gisborne Village Shopping Centre (near the newsagency).
There will also be a community event at the Barcham Theatre, Gisborne Secondary School, 95 Melton Road, Gisborne on Wednesday 10 October from 6pm to 8pm.
Mayor, Cr Jennifer Anderson encouraged residents to go to an information session to find out more.
“Council is undertaking a major review of future planning and development in Gisborne and the town centre, and there’s no-one better placed to help inform the development of this than residents themselves. They know what it’s like living in the town, have ideas about how the centre can be improved, and can help Council identify issues and opportunities for the town.
“I encourage residents to drop-in to an information session and tell us about your experience of living in Gisborne, so we can make it an even better town in the future,” she said.
