The 61st annual Henry Lawson Festival was held from 7-11 June 2018 and was an outstanding success.   The rain on Friday evening and early Saturday morning was perfect and although the festival commenced in cloudy weather conditions the rain held off during the day which allowed the very good crowd the opportunity to enjoy the official opening and procession as well as the many events and activities that were on offer. 

The Verse and Short Story competitions, Art and Porcelain exhibition, the street procession, concert, poetry recitals, the fun run and street activities were just some of the events and activities that were held over the weekend.  Saturday concluded with the Awards presentation at the Grenfell Bowling Club which was very well attended and featured our special guest Alison Bell who was very impressive and popular with all attendees.  The Grenfell Car Club car show on Sunday was also very impressive and appears to be getting bigger every year. In fact, there were a lot of people around on Sunday many of whom continued to enjoy the many activities on offer.  

The 2018 Henry Lawson Festival was a fantastic event and it is a credit to the Festival Executive, the committee, co-ordinators and all of the volunteers who all worked tirelessly to make it such a great success.  Thank you and congratulations to everyone involved in making the 61st Henry Lawson Festival one of the best ever.

The Awards presentation on Saturday evening was an excellent night with the Deputy Prime Minister the Hon Michael McCormack MP in attendance with the Member for Cootamundra the Hon Steph Cooke MP also attending.

MC Danny Joyce did a fantastic job keeping the evening running smoothly as well as keeping the crowd amused with his quick wit creating a lot of entertainment and humour on the night. Various awards were presented as well as the Festival Queen and Charity Queen being announced. Congratulations to Hannah Robinson who was crowned Festival Queen and May Suzuki who was announced as the Festival Charity Queen.  Well done to all the ladies involved who collectively raised approximately $31,000 which is a tremendous effort. 

The ladies are a credit not only to themselves but to their families who are no doubt very proud of their achievements. 

While there were many exhibitions, events and entertainment on offer for everyone one of the biggest attractions again proved to be the Henry Lawson Statue.  There was barely a moment were someone wasn’t standing or sitting beside ‘our Henry’ getting their photo taken. The general consensus was that the Statue is magnificent and is a great tourist attraction for our Shire.

The member for Cootamundra the Hon Steph Cooke MP has announced that applications are now open for $2 million in grants to support conservation by private landholders in NSW.

The Conservation Grants are intended to help private landholders maintain the ecological value of their properties with the funding available for things such as fencing, weed control, pest animal control, supplementary planting and habitat restoration.

The Hon Steph Cooke MP is also encouraging locals to nominate community members who volunteer their time for the 2018 Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Program this Volunteer Week.

To mark National Volunteer Week, residents are encouraged to recognise a volunteer they know by nominating them for the Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Program. The award program acknowledges the individual efforts of both adults and students, with each nominee receiving a certificate celebrating their individual contributions.

A reminder that the Mobile Blood Service will be visiting Grenfell today Wednesday 13 June, 2018 and will be stationed at Vaughn Park. Blood donations will be accepted from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. The Australian Red Cross Blood Service encourages anyone who wishes to make a blood donation to:

Another reminder that applications for the NSW Family Energy rebate are now open. NSW Families with dependent children who may be eligible are encouraged to apply for 2017-2018 Family Energy Rebate of up to $180.  

The Family Energy Rebate is one of a number of NSW Government energy assistance programs to help eligible households reduce the impact of energy costs.

The new exhibition at the Grenfell Art Gallery is "Commonality " by local artist Brent Logan which opens today and is on display until 22 July 2018.   

Brent’s work aims to explore the human condition in an ever changing society through environmental     portraiture. He uses photography as a story telling tool to showcase diversity throughout the community, but most importantly to show the common goal of acceptance and inclusion to all that emerges through our differences.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the Art Gallery to view the exhibition.

Council has received an application for a TAFE NSW Connected Learning Centre over LOT: 4 SEC: 17 DP: 758473 & LOT: 1 DP: 1086673, 44-46 George Street GRENFELL 2810.

Inspection: The application DA 30/2018 for TAFE NSW Connected Learning Centre may be viewed between the hours of 9.00 am to 4.00 pm from 21 May 2018 and 18 June 2018 at the Council’s Office, Camp Street, Grenfell.

Submissions: Any person may make a submission in writing to the Consent Authority within the advertised period.  Submissions objecting to the development are required to specify the grounds for objection.

Written submissions are to be received at Council by 4.00 pm on 18 June 2018.

TENDER T3/2018 – DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF GIBRALTAR ROCKS ROAD BOX CULVERT

Tenders are invited and will be received up until 2:00 pm, Friday, 6 July 2018 for the design and construction of Gibraltar Rocks Road Box Culvert over Caragabal Creek on Gibraltar Rocks Road, Caragabal, NSW 2810.

A compulsory on site pre-tender meeting and site inspection will be held at Gibraltar Rocks Road Box Culvert, Caragabal, NSW 2810 on Monday, 25 June 2018 at 10:00 am. Tenderers are required to attend the meeting in order to submit a conforming tender.

Tenders must be lodged in accordance with the requirements detailed in the tender documents. Tender documents are available from Weddin Shire Council’s website www.weddin.nsw.gov.au.

The Principal shall not be bound to accept the lowest or any tender.
