We’re giving people the chance to spring clean their library overdue fines and help the homeless members of our community at the same time.
Wollongong City Libraries is holding a fines amnesty from 1 September – 28 October. All you need to do is donate an in-date can of food or a packet of dry food to $5 worth of fines waived. All donated food will go to the Wollongong Homeless Hub.
“If you have overdue fines or perhaps haven’t visited the library in a while, this is the chance for you to rediscover your local library and start over with a clean slate,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.
“Plus, you’re able to do something good to help those in our community who need it most by donating to the Wollongong Homeless Hub.’’
The fines amnesty is available at all seven of Council’s libraries. The campaign applies to fines for overdue items only, not for lost items.
The Libraries’ last fines amnesty was held in 2015 and saw more than 2400 cans of food donated.
