Come along to the Environmental Expo, Enviro 2018, to celebrate 33 years of the Rise and Shine Campaign at the Wollongong Botanic Garden’s Discovery Centre on Monday 3 September 2018.
Rise and Shine is an annual campaign that teaches students and community members how they can make our city a great place to live.
“We’re hosting over 800 students from 18 local schools who will take part in hands-on workshops that teach small changes that can be made in your workplace, school or home,” said Wollongong Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM.
“These students are the next generation of decision makers. By increasing their knowledge of how local and global environments interact, we can work towards making Wollongong one of the most environmentally friendly cities in the world.”
This year the theme for World Environment Day in “Beat Plastic Pollution”. At the Environmental Expo there will be 26 workshops ranging from ‘Recycle Right’ to ‘Preventing Litter and Stormwater Trash in Community Schools’.
Enviro 2018 is an opportunity for school children to learn about:
How air and water pollution affects our quality of life; The meaning of biodiversity and the need to protect wildlife, The importance of recycling and, The need to think globally and act locally.The Expo is open to all community members between 10am and 2pm on Monday 3 September. The Discovery Centre is best reached through the Garden’s Madoline Street entrance. The official launch will take place at 11.15am at the Centre.
