Stage 2 to commence at James Bathe Recreation Reserve Published: 3 September 2018

Stage 2 development works to construct a new pavilion at James Bathe Recreation Reserve, located at 67 Caversham Drive in Pakenham, will commence next month.

At its meeting on Monday 20 August 2018, Council awarded the contract for the construction of a new pavilion to Lloyd Group Pty Ltd.

Designed to meet the future needs of the diverse community, the new pavilion will feature community spaces, social space, meeting rooms for community groups, a community kitchen and canteen.

Further, the 1,500m2 pavilion will also provide for female-friendly sports change rooms, female-friendly design and universally accessible amenities, umpires room, a gym, communications and storage space, cleaner’s storeroom, and first aid room.

The addition of a pavilion at the reserve aligns to the overall James Bathe Recreation Reserve Master Plan, which includes the Stage 1 works currently underway to construct:

two netball courts a multi-use ball court for netball and basketball multi-use nets for cricket, futsal and baseball areas for skateboards and scooters open space areas a nature-based playground barbecues and shelters car parking.

Through extensive consultation during the planning and design stages of the project, Council has worked with the local community and user groups, departments across Council, the Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning (DELWP), and Sport and Recreation Victoria to ensure the pavilion will serve the varied needs of the growing community in the best way possible.

The Stage 1 works are scheduled for completion by March 2019, and Stage 2 works to construct the pavilion are expected to be completed by December 2019, subject to weather conditions.

The $11.97 million James Bathe Recreation Reserve Redevelopment project is jointly funded by Cardinia Shire Council’s Capital Works Program and grants under the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and Growing Suburbs Fund.
