On top of the relay for third year

Central Highlands Regional Council’s Relay for life team came out on top for the third year in a row raising just over $8,000 for the annual fundraiser for Cancer Council Queensland.

Council’s CEO Scott Mason, who was also part of the event with another relay team, said it’s a champion effort, but it’s not a competition.

‘We’re proud to have a team of loyal supporters that really embrace the spirit of the relay each year,’ he said.

‘Particularly our staff that camp out for the night to make sure there’s a walker on the track for the entire 18 hours, but also team supporters have done a wonderful job.

‘And yet, it’s not their job, the team volunteers these 18 hours and many more to the cause and the community they work for and live in.

‘We recognise them as role models for our organisation and the community when it comes to team work and community pride.’

Council’s relay team raised funds through their annual charity golf day, a pie drive event, locking up the mayor and CEO at the region’s largest agricultural show AgGrow and many internal raffles including rugby league tips, sales of ear rings and coffee pods.
