Gladstone Region households, schools and community groups can start preparing now to join more than 400,000 people across Australia on October 20 and 21 participating in the annual Garage Sale Trail.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said 12 garage sales had already been listed in the Gladstone Region with the number expected to grow as the sale weekend approaches.

“In the previous years that Gladstone Regional Council has supported the Garage Sale Trail the number of participants across the region has continued to grow,” Councillor Burnett said.

“Last year more than 80 individual and group sales were registered across our region but sale numbers were unfortunately impacted by wet weather.”

Cr Burnett said Council was pleased to be one of about 150 councils supporting the community and sustainability event.

“The Garage Sale Trail is a fun and social way to encourage Gladstone Region residents to reuse and educates the community of why we all need to take responsibility for the waste we generate,” Councillor Burnett said.

“The initiative is also a great way to meet neighbours and connect with the wider community while decluttering and earning money.”

Cr Burnett said the reduce, reuse and recycle message reinforced by the Garage Sale Trail aligned with Council’s commitment to take a leadership role in protecting the environment.

“Reducing the amount sent to landfill offers environmental benefits for our community now and for future generations,” he said.

Residents interested in being part of the Garage Sale Trail can register for free at www.garagesaletrail.com.au   “This is an ideal way for individuals and groups to earn money by selling goods which they no longer use or require,” Cr Burnett said.

“Those interested in hosting a garage sale benefit from national Garage Sale Trail advertising, receive a free listing on the Garage Sale Trail website, hints, tips and materials to help make their sale successful.”
