Creativity blooms in Tara

An enjoyable evening was had by guests who attended the biennial Bloomin’ Creative Showcase opening at the Tara Memorial Hall last Friday.

Over 80 guests were treated to vibrant live music, tasty food platters and the opportunity to view a total of 225 pieces of art from across the Tara district.

This year’s featured artist Annette Brimblecombe was invited to cut the ribbon, officially launching the week-long exhibition.

Jocelyn Prain and Jim Moran were the winners of the Wearable Art ‘Neck Attire’ Competition, with their very creative entry.

Western Downs Regional Council Councillor Kaye Maguire said that this event not only supported local artists but also some important community organisations here in Tara.

“Providing our local artists with opportunities to showcase their work is a very important part of keeping our arts and culture scene flourishing here on the Western Downs,” Cr Maguire said.

“Community groups who were involved in the event include the Tara and District Support Committee, Tara Craft Association, Tara Crisis Support Group and our sponsor QGC who supplied the materials to professionally display the artworks.

“I’d like to say a special thank-you to Jim Moran and Mark Thompson from the Tara Show Society, as well as the Tara Emergency Service Cadets for their help with food and drink on the night.

“The multi-draw raffle was a success, with 28 prizes up for grabs and $865 raised towards Angel Flight, plus all proceeds from the bar going to the Tara Show Society.”

The Bloomin’ Creative Showcase items were on display in the Tara Memorial Hall every day between 1 – 5 September.
