A $3 million investment in footpaths and sealed roads to enhance amenity and safety for Springton residents is about to enter the next phase of construction.
Seven local roads – Gilbert, Eckerts, Rose, Johannes, William and Miller Streets plus Graetz Terrace – will be upgraded as part of Stage 2 of the project, which is a joint initiative of The Barossa Council and the State Local Government Infrastructure Partnership.
The long-awaited project includes construction of new footpaths, drainage, driveway entrances and an asphalt seal of unsealed township roads.
Mayor Bob Sloane said stage one had been a success with the upgrade of Edward Street, Charles Street, MacDonnell Street and Mildres Street.
“It’s great to see the scale of work taking place in Springton after many years of campaigning by local residents to improve road safety and pedestrian access around the town,” he said.
“This upgrade, coupled with last week’s announcement that Springton is included on the 2019 Santos Tour Down Under route, is great news for this community, which has waited a long time to see such significant progress.”
The project accelerates upgrades identified in Council’s 10 Year Transport Program and corresponds with footpath upgrades across the entire Council area to meet community needs.
