Bookmark Competition Winners

The competition, launched across the City of Rockingham’s four libraries, encouraged local school students to design and create bookmarks to showcase the artistic creativity of young local people and the City’s extensive library services.

The winners are Jordon Cockrell, Madison Cockrell, Gabriel Nsair and Molly Bemet. All four will be presented with their awards at a special function at the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre on Friday 19 January at 2pm. The winning designs will be reproduced and made available for use by young readers.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the competition, which attracted 160 entries, was an effective way to encourage young people to show their creativeness and at the same time allow their designs to depict the best things about the lifestyle of the City of Rockingham community.

“It also showed once again the depth of the artistic talent of our young people,” Cr Sammels said. “With so many clever entries designed and made specifically for children, I know the judges had a difficult job in selecting just four winners.

“The competition is also a way to build awareness of the benefits our libraries bring to all people, and hopefully encourage families to utilise what is a valuable learning and entertainment resource.”
