Council is currently preparing two new strategic plans - the Byron Shire Bike Strategy and Action Plan, and, the Byron Shire Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP) - and the community is urged to get involved in the process, starting with a survey – available on yoursaybyronshire.com.au until 30 September.
Results from the survey will provide the basis for discussions at a series of Design Workshops, to be held in mid-October, to give the community a chance to highlight local concerns and put forward ideas and solutions. Information about the design workshops will be advertised in coming weeks, or let Council know if you’d like to receive further details by emailing: [email protected]
“We know more can be done to improve the condition of many of our footpaths and cycleways and the way they connect and now we want to hear from the community about what they believe are the areas of greatest priority,” Director of Infrastructure Services, Phil Holloway said.
“We want to hear from a large cross-section of the community, to find out how the priorities differ in line with how people use the existing footpaths and shared paths … and we want to hear from everyone, whether you’re a regular walker, someone in a wheelchair or mobility scooter, kids riding or skating to school and cyclists.
“The aim of this consultation is to find out more about the experiences and issues our community has so that we can put together the best plans possible for our footpaths and cycleways of the future.
“Once identified, these priorities will form the basis of the work we plan for strategically over the next 10 years,” he said.
The Bike Strategy and Action Plan will replace the current Plan adopted in 2008, while the Byron Shire Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP) is the first of its kind in the Shire.
Following consultation with the community, the new plans will be drafted and placed on public exhibition for 28 days.
