Baw Baw’s Favourite Son Bob Murphy Joins the Team

AFL legend and former Warragul local Bob Murphy has been officially announced as Visit Baw Baw’s new tourism ambassador.

Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Cr Joe Gauci officially introduced Bob as ambassador at last night’s launch event for Council’s Economic Development Strategy.

“Bob grew up in Warragul and maintains a strong connection to the region. Throughout his life, he’s visited all over the Shire and knows firsthand all the wonderful things we have to offer our visitors”, said the Mayor.

“Bob’s illustrious footy career has seen him become an iconic and well-respected public figure. He is a natural fit for this role given his high profile in Melbourne, strong media presence and close personal connection to the region. The timing of our launch aligns with footy finals, providing a great opportunity to leverage off the finals fever spotlight too.

“We’re excited for the campaign to kick off and for Bob to promote our region, tourist attractions and day trip destinations to a growing Melbourne day trip market of over 5 million."

The ambassadorship includes radio advertising campaigns on SEN and 3AW radio featuring hero day trip destinations Walhalla, Noojee and Yarragon. Bob will also feature heavily on Visit Baw Baw’s social media and make personal appearances at key local events.

Bob is a strong advocate for our Shire and has great excitement for his ambassadorship with Visit Baw Baw. He was the star attraction at the launch event and spoke of his new role to an excited crowd.

“My goal is to try to wake people up to what’s in Baw Baw Shire and I think that day is fast approaching. I can’t wait to see the masses of people come down and experience what we already know, that Baw Baw Shire is… closer than you think”, said Mr Murphy.
