Maroondah City Council has released a draft masterplan encapsulating a long-term vision for a vibrant modern Ringwood town centre and is now keen to hear from the community.

Following community consultation earlier this year, Council has undertaken a review of the 2004 Ringwood Transit Urban Design Masterplan, now the Draft Ringwood Metropolitan Activity Centre Masterplan 2018.

The Ringwood Metropolitan Activity Centre (MAC) is identified as having potential to accommodate projected future population and economic growth through supporting an increase in jobs, activities, services and housing in locations well serviced by public transport over the next 15 years.

Maroondah Mayor, Cr Nora Lamont, said Council was delighted with the level of community interest and input received in the preparation of the Draft Ringwood MAC Masterplan, which once finalised will set a solid foundation for the future planning of the centre.

“We have had a great response from residents, business operators and visitors alike, and the feedback we have gained through that consultation process has been valuable in shaping this document,” she said.

Ringwood MAC is located along Maroondah Highway with excellent road and public transport connections, Ringwood MAC is highly accessible providing jobs close to where people live, and new housing opportunities close to employment.

Cr Lamont said consultation had been a central part in developing the draft masterplan and highlighted the importance of keeping Ringwood’s atmosphere with trees and open spaces, while reinforcing it as a primary destination in the municipality, with a focus for growth and investment, characterised by a diverse mix of housing, employment, activity and services.

“I now encourage all residents, particularly those who have contributed their thoughts and suggestions during the previous consultation process, to view and provide feedback on the draft document before it comes back to Council for final adoption later this year,” she said.

“Gathering community insight on the draft masterplan is vital as the final document will shape the Ringwood town centre and its surrounds for the foreseeable future.”

The draft Masterplan aims to:

reinforce Ringwood MAC as a principal retail, commercial, entertainment and employment precinct define Ringwood MAC as a convenient, safe and accessible enhance the natural environmental features of Ringwood MAC to distinguish it from other suburban activity centres establish a true ‘mixed use’ Centre that promotes high-quality urban design create high-quality public spaces that provide for a safe and convenient pedestrian and cyclist environment provide infrastructure needed to support the increased number of residents, workers and visitors, and mechanisms to fund future infrastructure.
