$20,000 support for drought relief

Blacktown City Council has donated $20,000 to support residents in one of the worst drought regions in NSW.

Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said the donation to Sister Cities partner, Liverpool Plains Shire Council, was a great initiative. 

“The New England region of NSW, in which Liverpool Plains is situated, has been identified in the top three drought affected areas in NSW.

“It is a privilege to be able to provide aid during such a dire moment for the Liverpool Plains community,” Mayor Bali said.

“The $20,000 drought support package will help fund the purchase of a tank to supply potable water to residents.

“Over 60 per cent of properties in Liverpool Plains are not connected to local mains water and require tankers to supply water in times of drought.”

Mayor of Liverpool Plains Shire Council, Councillor Andrew Hope, said the assistance will go a long way in aiding the community.

“The purchase of a water tanker for carting of drinkable water to those in need would not have been possible without the generous assistance of Blacktown City Council,” he said.

“We thank our Sister City for their ongoing support to the entire Liverpool Plains community especially during the current drought.”
