Cabramatta Moon Festival celebrates 20 years

From 9am to 8pm, the streets of Cabramatta will come alive with a variety of fun, family friendly activities and culinary delights, centred around Freedom Plaza and its iconic Pailau gates.

Minh Tuyet will headline the celebrations. Minh is one of the best-selling artists in the Vietnamese communities across the world. She has released numerous albums since her debut in 1998.

As an exclusive singer for the prestigious Thuy Nga Productions for the past four years, Minh Tuyet regularly appears on their flagship Paris By Night music film series.

Catboy, Owlette and Gekko will wow little ones with their PJ Masks ‘Meet the Heroes’ show. Kids big and small will learn what it takes to be a hero and a member of the PJ Masks team in a live interactive training session.

Sing, dance and perform the PJ Masks special super power moves to discover the real meaning of being a hero.

MasterChef 2018 contestants Jenny Lam and Lisa Diep will tickle tastebuds as they cook for the crowds.

Jenny grew up in Sydney, learning cooking from the age of eight and spending every weekend at Cabramatta enjoying pandan waffles, che, banh mi thit and mi gia don.

Lisa has a passion for south east Asian cuisine, especially Vietnamese cooking, which she learned from her restaurateur parents. She will be demonstrating her favourite dish banh cuon.

Food plays a major role in the Moon Festival celebrations, with Cabramatta the undisputed home of south east Asian cuisine in Sydney.

There will be plenty of delicious street food to enjoy, plus Railway Parade will be converted into a dining precinct. And don’t forget the dozens of delicious and popular restaurants and fresh food markets right across Cabramatta.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said this year’s celebrations will be the biggest yet.

“Whether you have been to the Cabramatta Moon Festival before, or this will be your first time, come prepared to be amazed by the performances, food and family fun on offer,” Mayor Carbone said.

“The Moon Festival is a wonderful showcase of Fairfield City’s diverse culture, and it is a fantastic boost for local businesses.

“I look forward to welcoming visitors from all over Sydney and NSW to the 20th anniversary of the Moon Festival on 23 September.”

To celebrate the festival’s 20th anniversary, there will be 20 amusement rides on offer – the biggest selection ever. There will be family rides, thrill rides and carnival games, including an exciting T-Rex ride.

There will be paddleboats and a Pixar Cars ride from 11am to 7.30pm and ‘giant’ games from 3.30pm to 7.30pm – including a huge version of Connect 4, and a PJ Masks inflatable.

In Dutton Plaza, there will be free Lego and origami workshops from 11am to 7.30pm, and free face painting from 10am to 3pm.

In Cook Square, don’t miss the Kookies N Kream hip hop routine and workshop from 12pm to 1pm; the Kids Full Moon Disco from 2pm to 5pm; and the interactive youth area, featuring LED hula hoops, DJ and giant yard games, from 5pm to 8pm.

The crowd favourites will be returning, including the prawn peeling competition, children’s chopstick challenge and noodle and moon cake eating competitions.

There will also be the traditional lion dance to kick off the celebrations, community performances, market stalls, and the lantern parade led by the Moon Goddess. The celebrations will conclude with a colourful fireworks display.
