Feedback sought on open spaces and community buildings

The City of Swan is seeking feedback on how you would like to see local parks, sporting fields and community facilities developed over the next 15 years.

Your feedback will help the City develop our Open Space and Community Buildings Strategy.

City of Swan Mayor David Lucas said the strategy was crucial for appropriately catering for the region’s future population growth.

“The City of Swan is growing rapidly - our population expected to increase from 150,172 in 2018, to more than 224,000 in 2036,” he said.

“Our focus now and in the future will be to provide the best services and infrastructure possible to accommodate for this growth.

“These standards will focus on some of the most important community needs – parks and playgrounds, sporting and recreational facilities and conservation areas.

“It is important we hear from the community so we can ensure we’re on the right track when planning for their future.”

The new strategy will be underpinned by the City’s award winning Standards of Provision document, ensuring a strategic approach to future planning and development for open spaces and community buildings.

Altone Ward Councillor Peter Lyndon-James said the City is offering many opportunities for residents to engage in and inform the development of the strategy.

“There are a number of ways you can get involved and share your ideas and suggestions,” he said.

“A community survey will be available on the City’s website, at a City of Swan library computer or via return mail.

“A number of drop-in information sessions will also be held across our libraries and facilities where you can attend, ask questions and submit your comments.

“You can also email the planning team at [email protected] and seek further information or submit your comments.”

The community survey will be open for comment from September 17 to October 15.
