The $1.9M in funding will go towards eight projects including construction of an Active Zone in South Albury and the upgrade of change rooms and public toilets at Thurgoona Oval.
Some other projects will include outdoor basketball courts and infrastructure associated with off-road walking and cycling tracks.
AlburyCity Mayor, Kevin Mack thanked Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro together with Member for Albury, Greg Aplin, for the Government’s generous funding towards these great community projects.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to build facilities that will benefit a broad range of our community and help keep us active and healthy,” said Cr Mack.
The eight community and local sporting facilities to benefit from the $1.9M in funding include:
*$100,000 for the infrastructure associated with off-road walking and cycling tracks – Thurgoona Albury Trail, Bungambrawartha Trail and Riverina Highway Trail; *$252,152 for the construction of fenced outdoor basketball courts at the rear of the PCYC; *$150,789 to upgrade lighting at Jelbart Park; *$349,750 for the construction of sports facilities at Waites Park in South Albury including an Active Zone; *$419,758 towards the upgrade of change-rooms and public toilets at Thurgoona Oval; *$181,320 for the development of an outdoor gym along the Thurgoona-Albury trail in East Albury; *$228,840 for the construction of an outdoor fitness zone at Ernest Grant Park in Thurgoona; and *$287,063 towards construction of 50 new covered stables and road upgrades at the Albury Wodonga Equestrian Centre
“Council encourages future funding rounds to also assist in completing a number of other projects identified during the community engagement on priority projects for the City” concluded Cr Mack.
