Bellingen Shire Council is pleased to be a Champion of the Information and Privacy Commission’s Right to Know Week 2018 campaign held from 24 to 30 September 2018. Right to Know Week marks the International Right to Know Day which is celebrated annually on 28 September.

NSW public agencies have an obligation to provide access to government information and data to the NSW community under the GIPA Act. When open government is working well, it increases access to information and data, provides accountability and promotes public participation and importantly, trust in government agency decision-making.As employees of Bellingen Shire Council each of us has a part to play in facilitating open access to information and increasing the NSW community’s awareness of their rights, and confidence in government decision-making where open and transparent governance is at the forefront.
