Registrations are open for this year’s second round of Get Active come ‘n’ try sports activities, with many new sports and fitness groups available.

Soccer, rowing and athletics clubs are among the  groups that have joined the program for October and November, while participants can chose from a list of fitness classes and martial arts.

Approximately 40 different activities will be on offer for community members to try for free between 22 October and 4 November.

The Newcastle Permanent Get Active Armidale Program, coordinated by Armidale Regional Sports Council, is held twice a year to give residents the chance to sample a range of sports and activities. It has been held in Armidale for almost a decade to encourage people to do something new.

“It’s an opportunity to have a go a something you’ve always wanted to try or just enjoy new experiences and have fun,” Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray said.

“It’s part of the Sports Council’s efforts to get residents active and healthy.

“We want to see people enjoying the benefits of being active every day – the health and social benefits.”

Futsal, fencing and cricket are also among the sports people can sample during this round of activities.

The martial arts include Japanese Sword, Aikido and many Taekwondo classes.

Get Active is supported by Newcastle Permanent and Armidale Regional Council.
