NSW Bike Week will be held from Saturday 22 September to Sunday 30 September 2018. Council’s Bike Week event ‘Ride the Gong’ will be held at the north end of Lang Park on Saturday 22 September from 9am until 1pm.
Wollongong City Council Lord Mayor Cr Gordon Bradbery AM said: “Cycling is a healthy alternative, especially for short trips. Cycling is such an environmentally friendly way of getting around the city and keeping fit. We encourage community members to come and join us for this great day out which caters for riders of all ages and abilities.
“With summer just around the corner, spring is the perfect time to start exploring our growing network of shared paths. Come along to Ride the Gong, get some bike riding tips and pick up an updated copy of the Wollongong Cycling Map and Guide to help you get started”.
Council is committed to expanding and maintaining an extensive network of shared pathways through the city. Council’s capital works program has dedicated $39.7 million to building and improving footpaths and cycle ways over the next three years.

Free activities will allow community members to learn all about bike maintenance, safety and riding skills. These are suitable for all ages and abilities.
Activities include:
Family Cycling Workshop: (Booked Out) 9:30-10:30am – Learn how to ride together safely as a family. Includes tips for supervising children on your rides, as well as some basic bike skills. Bike Fundamentals Workshop: 11am-12pm – Get some skills and tips to make your riding safer and more enjoyable! Includes braking techniques, hand signals, bike set up, helmet fit and progression of skills. Bookings recommended. Free Bike Safety Checks: Check your bike and pump your tyres thanks to Simple Cycles. Free Helmet Exchange: Swap your old helmet for a new one with Roads and Maritime Services (while stocks last). Keep your new bike safe and secure With NSW Police. Bike rentals available from South Coast Bike Hire (discounted fees apply – $10/hour or $25/four hours). Children’s entertainment Circus and magic on the move with Tom Foolery. Information and advice from cycling groups.
