Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett has paid tribute to the efforts of former Councillor Cindi Bush during her two and a half years on the Council team.
Councillor Burnett used his Mayoral Statement at yesterday’s (Sep 18) general meeting to read out Cindi’s resignation letter, tendered on Monday, and acknowledge her contribution to Council since her election in March 2016.
“We are going to miss Cindi’s passion for arts, culture and the community and the enthusiasm with which she approached all of her duties as a Councillor,” Cr Burnett said after the meeting.
“We are losing a very capable Councillor who had vision for our region’s future and worked well with the rest of the team, and the Gladstone Region community is losing one of its champions.”
“Cindi served on a number of committees and panels and was a strong contributor to many arts and culture events.”
Cindi served as Chair for the Major Events Advisory Panel, promoting and encouraging growth and development of major events in the Gladstone Region, and as a member of Council’s Sport and Recreation Grant panel which helps deliver a wide range of projects and initiatives for sport and active recreation groups.
Cindi was also a strong advocate for arts and culture, being heavily involved in the 2017 Community Musical production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and this year’s Musica! performance.
Her love of arts and culture was also reflected in her involvement as a Regional Arts Development Fund committee member, helping the region’s residents gain access to develop their artistic skills and projects.
Council’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Leisa Dowling said Cindi’s resignation had been effective immediately.
“Cindi announced the reasons for her resignation on Monday and she will be missed by her fellow Councillors, and Council staff,” Ms Dowling said.
“She is a passionate advocate for the community and the energy and enthusiasm she brought to the role is a credit to her.”
