Shire of Capel Trails Management Group
The Shire of Capel has received funding from Lotterywest to create a heritage trail in the central part of Boyanup, and has contracted experienced interpretation consultant, Kulbardi Hill Consulting, to deliver this project.
Kulbardi Hill has previously worked on both the Preston River Ramble and the Joshua Lake Walk. Field work, research and community consultation has produced a list of 15 historic sites / buildings that will be part of this new Trail, and each of these will be interpreted via a high-quality long-lasting etched aluminium sign/panel.
Trail markers will also be installed, to guide visitors around the Trail, and a promotional brochure will be produced and distributed to key outlets around the district and region.
The Trail will extend from Lions Park along the south side of Bridge Street to the Highway, where it will turn south past a range of the town’s older buildings, to finish near the former CWA building. Information and photos to be used on the panels will be sourced from the Shire’s heritage resources, and will relate to the early period of the town’s history.
The signs and markers will be installed later this year or early next year.
We are currently seeking quality heritage photographs on the following four historic sites / buildings that will be part of this new trail:
Hitchings Garage (Also known as Boyanup Automotive Services) Old Tuck Shop and Bakery The Methodist / Uniting Church The CWA RoomsIf you have photos of any of these sites could you please drop your photographs off (with return name and address information) at the Boyanup Public Library. This would enable the Shire of Capel staff to scan them in the Ron Maidment Archives room for use in this project and return them to you as soon as is practicable.
If you wish to find out more information about the project please contact either Jeremy O’Neill or Trent van Beem at the Shire of Capel on 9727 0222.
