- Ballarat Mayor Samantha McIntosh

The restoration of this iconic community space is on track for completion towards the end of 2018, with the doors likely to open to the public for the first time in more than a decade early next year.

The work currently being undertaken at the site will enable the Civic Hall to be re-opened to the public for similar uses to those before it closed, but with the added demand from a growing population and the benefit of GovHub next door. These restoration and upgrade works include painting, plaster repairs, new carpet and the installation of new heating and cooling, as well as electrical and plumbing upgrades.

We know how important this building is to many members of the community, and understand its potential to become an active community hub for the entire community to use - that's why we have worked so tirelessly to ensure its future is secured.

The Civic Hall is almost 70-years-old and has been unoccupied since 2003.  We could not simply re-open the building as it was, substantial upgrades were required to bring the hall into line with appropriate building standards. Those upgrades are currently underway, and we look forward to seeing the Civic Hall return to its former glory.
