Ballarat residents are encouraged to have their say on the City of Ballarat’s draft Social Policy Framework and position statement templates.
The Social Policy Framework articulates the principles, considerations, roles and responsibilities that will guide the City of Ballarat’s policy development in areas of social concern and wellbeing.
Templates for the position statements, which will outline the City of Ballarat's position on specific social issues, are also being developed. The position statements will bring together current adopted policy from across City of Ballarat strategic documents and identify roles and key messages.
Community feedback is available until 21 October. Visit mysay.ballarat.vic.gov.au to find out more about the project, view the Social Policy Framework documents or to complete the online survey.
Residents are also invited to attend one of the drop-in sessions being held alongside the Library Outreach Van sessions across the municipality from 24-26 September and 4-6 October.
Consultation will focus on community and stakeholder feedback on the framework’s principles, approaches, overall layout and any proposed additional elements. Feedback will also cover whether the format of the position statements is useful in providing information about the current adopted roles and responsibilities of Council when considering a specific social issue.
Once adopted, City of Ballarat officers will be required to reflect on the Social Policy Framework, including the principles and influencing approaches, when developing policy which impacts on community wellbeing.
This will also include considering the roles and responsibilities of the City of Ballarat in relation to the areas of accountability, capacity and relationships with other organisations.
Social policy aims to improve people’s wellbeing and is especially concerned with the welfare of those who experience some form of disadvantage.
