With State and Federal elections looming, Council is preparing to showcase the city's strategic direction to both Government and opposition officials through a new Advocacy Strategy.
The Strategy outlines various facets of Broken Hill including the city's industry, strengths and challenges, opportunities for growth, and potential strategic projects such as the proposed upgrade of the airport, and the new library and cultural precinct.
Council's General Manager, James Roncon, said the Strategy represented the next step in Council's ongoing efforts to advocate to Government and other investors for the betterment of Broken Hill.
"This strategy has been a real focus of the "Our Leadership" Key Direction Working Group, Chaired by Councillor Adams, along with staff from the General Manager's office," he said.
"In all our previous dealings with Government or investors we've provided documentation around key projects and issues for Broken Hill, however this Strategy takes things a step further.
"It provides a really robust blueprint from which we can strongly advocate to seek grant funding or other investment opportunities to drive Broken Hill forward.
"And it's not necessarily just a Council document. It will be available to all community groups or residents, whether they're looking to seek funding, or just extol the virtues of Broken Hill and its capacity for growth into the future."
Mr Roncon said the strategy would be a cornerstone in future discussions with representatives from all sides of politics.
"Every election brings elements of uncertainty and opportunity, so it's important that we prepare and position ourselves to put a strong case forward for Broken Hill, regardless of future political outcomes," he said.
The Advocacy Strategy will go before Councillors at the September Ordinary Monthly Meeting.
