The acclaimed Evergreen Ensemble had the Blue Mountains Theatre audience enraptured with their magnificent concert program in 2016. We are delighted to welcome this exceptional musical group back to our stage for the launch of their new album and Australian tour, Snow In Summer, on Saturday 6 October. Evergreen Ensemble pays homage to the music of the windswept Scottish Highlands and Isles, as well as exploring their Scandinavian ties. Ancient vocal and instrumental melodies are interspersed with new compositions inspired by these beautiful, rugged northern landscapes.
The new Snow in Summer repertoire reflects on the passing of time, the seasons, memories and loves lost, and connections to the land. Alongside 18th century sonatas the audience will hear arrangements of folks songs – sparse, ambient string textures, plucked notes resonating like stars in a clear night’s sky, a voice soaring high above. Evergreen Ensemble comprises four female musicians: Shane Lestideau on violin, Samantha Cohen on theorbo and baroque guitar, Claire Patti with Celtic harp and voice, and Jenny Erikkson on acoustic and electric viola da gamba. These outstanding performers are amongst Australia’s most respected baroque music specialists, playing for the likes of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra and Pinchgut Opera.
Evergreen Ensemble founder, Shane Lestideau spent her formative years in the Blue Mountains before studying violin performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and pursuing further training and performance experience in France. She formed the Evergreen Ensemble as a vehicle for her passion for Scottish baroque repertoire – music which uniquely and distinctively unites folk music flair with baroque music technique:
“Setting up Evergreen Ensemble was a chance for me to create a unique musical universe, which brings together old and new repertoire, folk and art music, as well as cross-cultural propositions”. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to experience Scottish baroque and folk music as you’ve never heard it before. Blue Mountains Theatre presents Evergreen Ensemble, Saturday 6 October, 8pm. 106 Macquarie Road Springwood. Tickets $35/$32. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Box Office, via 4723 5050 or at www.bluemountainstheatre.com
