A review of the Footpath Trading Policy 2005 has been adopted by Council.
The findings highlighted that while the current policy was largely working appropriately, there were minor and technical changes that should be made, such as:
Including reference to the Tobacco Act 1987 due to reforms related to tobacco and smoking such as regulations around smoking in outdoor dining areas Removal of goods, displays and fittings from footways when the wind forecast is in excess of 30 knots Incorporating a street stall request to temporary barbeques and sausage sizzles Formalise the current pro-rata refund/payments on fees Re-format and make minor changes to the wording so that the Policy is more easily understood and interpreted.Additionally, the review uncovered areas that were not covered under the Footpath Trading Policy, but would require further attention such as the economic importance of footpath trading to shopping strips and community complaints relating to trader non-compliance.
It has been proposed to undertake a full review, which will include community and trader consultation, as part of the Council’s Local Law No 2, which is expected to commence in 2020 and be completed by 2022.
