Tennis players in Warburton have a new playing surface to compete on, following major refurbishment works at the club in recent months.
Council recently undertook works to replace all of the fencing around the Warburton Tennis Club, along with replacing the playing nets and upgrading the playing surface to a sand-filled synthetic grass from its previous asphalt surface.
Players will also be able to play during tough weather, with drainage works taking place across the retaining wall at the club.
O’Shannassy Ward Councillor, Jim Child, said the club also had its lighting upgraded to a competition standard, so games can take place after dark.
“These works will give the tennis club a much-needed facelift for their courts, one that will make the space a better place to play for people of all experience levels,” Cr Child said.
“The new courts, nets and fencing will be a great asset to the club, and the many players who will come through it, over years to come.”
Warburton Tennis Club President, Nic Fox, said the club was happy to see the works completed.
“The tennis club committee, our members and the wider community are grateful to Council for this much needed upgrade,” Ms Fox said.
“This will ensure our competitions, social, casual, outreach and schooling programs continue to flourish.”
The tennis club will be hosting a Family Open Day to officially open the courts, from 1-4pm on Sunday, 14 October. Equipment and refreshments will be provided.
