Cessnock City Council is excited Reading Hour 2018 is just around the corner. The national event is all about celebrating reading and encouraging everyone to stop what they’re doing and pick up a book!
The celebration is on Thursday 20 September at Kurri Kurri Library from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. The Library has planned a PJ story time that involves one of the best loved stories of all time. So we want our youngest residents to put on their comfiest PJs for an hour of stories, fun, craft and a yummy bedtime snack.
Reading Hour hopes to see an increase in reading among young Australians, as research shows children who read from an early age perform better at school. In children, reading has been shown to help with identity formation and improves their development.
Adults are also set to benefit from turning the pages of a good book. Reading has been shown to reduce stress by 68% more than listening to music, going for a walk, or having a cup of tea. For more details or to make a booking for this free event, please ring Kurri Kurri Library on 49371638, or email us on [email protected].
