Free talk on Great North Road Convict Trail

To celebrate History Week, Cessnock Library will host a free talk on The Great North Road Convict Trail from 10.30 to 11.30am on Thursday 6 September 2018.
In the early 1800s, there were no maps of the country between Sydney and Newcastle. To find a way through, explorers had to go out in the country, usually with Aboriginal guides, to search for routes which would be possible to build a road.
Extending north from Sydney to the Hunter Valley, the Convict Trail follows the route of the 240km Great North Road, built between 1826 and 1836 and most of this road continues to be used today.
Residents are invited to join Convict Trail Project Director, Glynn Jacobs for this fascinating free talk about the amazing hidden and not so hidden treasures and stories of the Great North Road.
Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent encourages locals to come along to this free talk.
