Town of Claremont 23 Sep 2018
Following years of outstanding service to Friends of Lake Claremont and the broader Claremont community, Heidi Hardisty has been named as the latest Freeman of the Town of Claremont.

At a morning tea ceremony today, Mayor Jock Barker said Mrs Hardisty was awarded this rare accolade for her significant contribution to the changes at Lake Claremont over the past eight years as coordinator of Friends of Lake Claremont.

“Heidi Hardisty has been both the face and the engine of the Friends of Lake Claremont activity in the period in which she has been coordinator,” Mayor Barker said.

“It has been widely remarked that we could not have achieved the significant changes at Lake Claremont without Mrs Hardisty’s contribution.

“She has been instrumental in the planting of hundreds of thousands of seedlings in the Lake Claremont area, helping to grow the beautiful wetlands in our community.”

Under her helm, Friends of Lake Claremont has won more than $500,000 in grants from State and Federal Governments for the lake.

Mrs Hardisty has served as coordinator of the Friends of Lake Claremont since 2009, this year stepping down from the position due to relocating to Brisbane later this year.

Other campaigns to benefit from Mrs Hardisty’s support and contribution include Carnaby’s Cockatoos and Shenton Hospital Bushland.

Freeman of the Town is awarded to recognise those who demonstrate outstanding commitment and contribution to the community of the Town of Claremont, and the wider community of Western Australia. The honour is awarded on rare and exceptional occasions.

Mrs Hardisty is the tenth Freeman of the Town of Claremont.
