First Aid Safety is 100 per cent at Claremont Aquatic Centre

The centre underwent a thorough assessment by St John last week with checks to all first aid equipment, staff qualifications and safety processes, attaining a result of 100 out of 100.

Mayor Jock Barker said it was a great achievement for the centre as well as the staff members involved. “It is vital for our aquatic centre to be diligent with first aid training, especially with the added risks of water safety,” Mayor Barker said.

“It is fantastic to see that the centre and our staff are prepared for any first aid incidents that may arise, meaning our pool users are in safe hands.”

St John Ambulance’s ‘St John SAFE’ accreditation ensures workplaces have appropriate first aid training, equipment and systems in place to deal with an emergency.

The accreditation assesses three areas of workplace first aid including first aid training, kits and equipment as well as emergency first aid processes and plans. Workplaces must receive a minimum score of 90/100 to be recognised as St John SAFE.

St John First Aid Business Development Manager Luke Jones said St John would reassess the aquatic centre annually to ensure all processes and equipment remain up-to-date.

“An annual re-assessment allows us to inform our St John SAFE accredited workplaces of any changes that may affect their workplace,” Mr Jones said.

“The aquatic centre are doing an amazing job, receiving a score of 100 out of 100 is fantastic.”
