Visual stories leap Off the Page and into local Claremont businesses

The natural flat lay of paper, print and books will be challenged and transformed as local and international artists reimagine their traditional forms to create bespoke art installations for Off the Page, a collective of works that will be exhibited in businesses across the Claremont Town Centre shopping precinct 1-13 May.   Mayor Jock Barker said the project was championed by local businesses owners who opened their doors to host the artworks and assist in raising awareness and celebrate the inaugural Scribblers Children’s Literature and Arts Festival, which will be presented by FORM and the Town of Claremont next month.   “Creatives from a range of art disciplines have been selected to take inspiration from paper materials and written narratives and transform them into alternative visual art forms, which will be exhibited in 11 business locations across the shopping precinct’, he said.   Home-based talent includes globally acclaimed Perth artist Stormie Mills, sculptor Britt Mikkelsen, industrial designer and university lecturer Wilma van Boxtel, designer Sean Adamas, textile artist Joanna Sulkowski and illustrator and tattoo artist Arcadian Dreams.   Their paper and literature inspired works will join international artists Mike Stilkey from Los Angeles, Berlin based team Lacy Barry and Cris Wiegandt, Jennifer Collier from Britain and Jose Antonio Roda Martinez from Spain.   “I commend the Claremont Town Centre initiative and FORM who have steered the art direction for the project. This upcycled artwork series will not only stimulate thought but bring much joy to our community and the many visitors we look forward to welcoming to Claremont”, said Mayor Barker.   Artworks will be displayed at Empire Homewares, Dilettante, Jac + Jack, Elle et lui Designer Shoes, the Claremont Community Hub and Library, Cult Status, Mama Tran, project sponsor Claremont Quarter, Monde Design Store, The Lane Bookshop and Town of Claremont administration building.   Off the Page will run from 1-13 May 2018 throughout the Claremont Town Centre.
