If you despair at the thought of parting with books that no longer have a use in your home or work space, consider donating them for use in bespoke artwork by international artist Mike Stilkey for Off the Page, a series of 11 art installations inspired by books, paper and print and exhibited in businesses across the Claremont town centre 1-13 May. Stilkey, from Los Angeles, will fly into Perth to create and exhibit for the first time in Australia as part of the inaugural event. The ultimate in arts upcycling, his distinctive works use the spines of books to create a canvas on which he skilfully and meticulously paints whimsical characters. His piece that will be hosted by Empire Homewares will require 400 hard cover books, without a paper dust cover, to create a solid life-size canvas. Book donations will be gratefully received and can be dropped to guest services, level one Claremont Quarter by Thursday 26 April. Off the Page will run from 1-13 May 2018 throughout the Claremont Town Centre. For more information about the exhibition, click here.
