A little library just for the kids is now in Claremont

The Little Libraries project received the most amount of tokens last month in Grill’d Claremont’s Program, winning a donation to create the children’s focused Little Library within the Town of Claremont.

Mayor Jock Barker said the new free book exchange would be located outside Toyworld on Bay View Terrace and filled with children’s book donations, initially from the Claremont Community Hub and Library.

“The books will be housed in small wooden containers and are free to enjoy, with no registration or due back dates,” Mayor Barker said. “You simply stop, browse and take a book to read. If people choose to, they can contribute to the book exchange by donating a book from their own collection.”

The children’s Little Library will join four other Little Libraries around the Town of Claremont locality including at Grill’d Claremont Quarter, in Avion Way, at Speed Fit in St Quentin Avenue and at The Merchants of Swanbourne.

“It’s great to see people browsing and finding a book to read and even better to see them putting their own pre-loved books on the shelves for others to enjoy.” Mayor Barker said.

This is the second time Grill’d Claremont has included the Little Libraries project it in its community program. The interactive project is self-managed by the community and will become a unique opportunity for kids to discover and exchange their preloved books with others.

There are over 40,000 little libraries around the world with the concept based on a simple, old-fashioned honour system. The libraries are to encourage reading, to build communities and to continue sustainable living.   Back To News Stories
