Following endorsement at its September Council meeting, the City of Wanneroo is seeking public comment about its draft Local Environmental Strategy.

The City is committed to creating a healthy and sustainable natural and built environment as outlined in the City’s Strategic Community Plan and this Strategy plays a key role in achieving this.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the draft Strategy outlines the City’s overall approach to protecting and managing key environmental resources and natural treasures throughout the City.

“The City has many special and unique environmental assets including 32 kilometres of coastline; nature reserves; wetlands; a diverse bushland habitat and underground water resources,” Mayor Tracey Roberts said.

“These environmental qualities are highly valued by the community and the Local Environment Strategy will allow us to preserve our wonderful built and natural environments now and for the future,” she said.

The Strategy identifies six key themes to ensure all environmental elements are considered including: flora and fauna –biodiversity and native vegetation; land and waste – contamination and management; community – sense of place and liveability; climate and change impacts; air and energy –including air quality and energy reduction and; water – including availability and quality.

Mayor Roberts said she hoped City residents would take the time to provide their thoughts on the draft Strategy.

“I encourage all residents to let us know what environmental issues are important to them as their feedback will help shape the final Local Environmental Strategy and future action plans that the City puts in place.”

The Strategy can be viewed at the City of Wanneroo Civic Centre located at 23 Dundebar Road, Wanneroo, or by clicking below.
