Spring into school holiday fun

Liverpool residents will have plenty of choice when it comes to keeping their children busy during the spring school holiday period.

More than 30 individual events and workshops will be held at Liverpool City Council’s libraries, parks and Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

“Council is committed to providing children and families in Liverpool with things to see and do that promote creativity, learning and play,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.

“I encourage parents to take advantage of our extensive range of fun children’s activities during the spring school holidays, which aim to keep children happy, healthy and active.”

Holiday Kinder-Craften –$10 per session Tuesday 2, Thursday 4, Monday 8 and Wednesday 10 October, 10am – 11am Creative playgroup for children aged 2 – 5.

Can Do Clay – $10 per session Tuesday 2 and Thursday 11 October, 11am – midday Hand building, moulding and glazing with clay for children with disability.

Art School Holiday School – $50 for two days Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 October, 11.30am – 3.30pm School holiday art program for children aged 6 – 9.

Drama Camp – $75 for three days Tuesday 2, Wednesday 3 and Friday 5 October, 11.30am – 3.30pm Comprehensive course for young drama enthusiasts aged 10 – 12.

Drawing on a Younger Mind – $25 Wednesday 3 October, 11.30am – 3.30pm Drawing workshop for participants aged 10 – 14.

Magic Thursdays – $10 Thursday 4 October, 11am – midday Skill development and creative expression for children with disability through drama games, karaoke and magic tricks.

A.M. Holiday Makers – $50 for two days Thursday 4 and Friday 5 October, 11am – 3pm School holiday art workshop for children aged 8 – 10.

Creative Kids Club – $75 for three days Monday 8 to Wednesday 10 October, 11.30am – 3.30pm Fun art-making and problem solving for children aged 12 – 14.

The Young Filmmakers Club – $75 for three days Monday 8 to Wednesday 10 October, 11.30am – 3.30pm Introduction to documentary filmmaking for children aged 14 – 16.

Showtime Tuesday – $10 Tuesday 9 October, 11am – midday A fun class for children with disability to partake in individual and group performances.

Dance Camp – $50 for two days Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 October, 11am – 4pm Children aged 6 – 9 will explore the foundations of dance, working on rhythm and coordination.

Family Makers Club – $10 Saturday 13 October, 10.30am – 12.30pm All ages exhibition tour and art-making workshop for families.

Commedia Unmasked – The Appetites Tuesday 2 October, 1pm – 2pm  – Liverpool City Library Wednesday 3 October, 11am – midday  – Green Valley Library Thursday 4 October, 11am – midday  – Moorebank Library Acrobat and circus performer Charlotte Truscott will bring commedia masks to life in this show and workshop for children aged 5 – 12.

Indian Jungle Dance Safari with Shyamla Eswaran Tuesday 2 October, 2pm – 3pm – Miller Library Thursday 4 October, 10am – 11am – Casula Library Explore the jungles of South India in a movement-based adventure for children aged 5 – 12.

Illustration Workshop Tuesday 2 October, 1.15pm – 3.15pm – Carnes Hill Library Friday 5 October, 1.15pm – 3.15pm – Moorebank Library Children aged 6 – 17 can meet illustrator Gabriel Evans and create their own illustrations.

Augmented Reality Solar System Wednesday 3 October, 10am – 11am – Carnes Hill Library Wednesday 10 October, 2pm – 3pm – Liverpool City Library Children 8 –12 years old can discover the planets using iPads and apps, then get crafty to make their own take-home planet.

Make a T-Shirt Tote Bag Workshop Wednesday 3 October, 10.30am – midday – Moorebank Library Children aged 8 – 12 will decorate t-shirts and transform them into tote bags.

Cardboard Box Challenge Thursday 4 October, 2pm – 3pm – Carnes Hill Library Friday 5 October, 10am – 11am – Casula Library Thursday 11 October, 10am – 11am – Green Valley Library Friday 12 October, 10am – 11am – Moorebank LibraryIn groups, participants of all ages must build a robot in one hour using only the materials provided. Children under 12 must be supervised by a carer, no bookings provided.

Indoor Planetarium Thursday 4 October, 10am – 10.45am and 11am – 11.45am – Carnes Hill Library Children aged 5 – 12 can step inside an indoor planetarium and enjoy a 360 degree view of the solar system.

Make Your Own VR Goggles Thursday 4 October, 2pm – 3pm – Liverpool City Library Tuesday 9 October, 2pm – 3pm – Carnes Hill Library Children 8 – 12 years old will build their own customised Virtual Reality goggles.

Drama Queens – Puppet Workshop Monday 8 October, 2pm – 3.30pm – Carnes Hill Library Children 5 – 12 years can create their own sock puppet.
