Campbelltown joins global Mastercard City Possible program

Campbelltown Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mastercard to join the City Possible program.

The program brings together cities, businesses and academia across the globe to identify, prioritise and address urban challenges through scalable solutions to challenges in transport, economic development and digital inclusion.

It uses the collective power of the private sector to solve cities’ challenges.

This global program with participants from cities around the world  provides opportunities to learn, share and collaborate with forward thinking leaders from cities and the private sector through access to information, case studies and networks that otherwise might not be available.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said the city would be able to access best practices and lessons learnt by other cities around the globe.

“In Campbelltown we are preparing for an exciting future,” he said.

“Our city’s population is expected to double over the next 20 years and we are already taking steps to ensure we are ready to accommodate the needs of our growing community including planning for jobs, transport, housing and digital inclusion. We continue to advocate for our community and pursue opportunities that will ensure Campbelltown is a great place to live, work and invest.

“Collaborating with other cities will enable us to learn from their experiences, share our own expertise and benefit from the economies of scale that come with sharing solutions to the challenges faced in all countries across an increasingly urbanized world.”

Mastercard pioneered the City Possible program to create a new public-private partnership model that would bring cities around the world together with a united private sector to solve system-wide challenges.

“More than half of the world’s population lives in cities, and by 2050 this is expected to rise to more than three quarters. This scale of growth can present challenges in cities across the world as municipal budgets get tighter. Addressing ageing infrastructure and providing economic opportunities are just two of these challenges,” said Miguel Gamiño Jr., Executive Vice President & Head of Global Cities, Mastercard.

“City Possible brings together cities, businesses and academia across the world to identify, prioritise and address urban challenges through scalable solutions in areas such as transportation, economic development, and digital inclusion.
