Merimbula Aldi sale settles

The introduction of an ALDI supermarket to the Merimbula streetscape took another huge step forward this week, with the sale of 103 & 105 – 107 Main Street officially settling.

Settlement of the sale comes quickly on the back of the Southern Joint Regional Planning Panel’s recent decision to approve the company’s Development Application valued at $6.9 million and means ALDI will now be moving ahead with their plans for the site.

ALDI Australia’s spokesperson said the company was thrilled to have purchased a site for their store in Merimbula.

“We are proud to call ourselves ‘Good Different’ and offer a supermarket experience that is like no other in Australia,” they said.

“We’re excited to be opening a store in the community and look forward to showing local residents the difference ALDI can make to their wallets and lifestyles.

“At the moment, we are in the initial stages of design and hope to commence construction in 2019 – we will keep the community updated as our plans progress.”

Bega Valley Shire Council Mayor, Cr Kristy McBain, welcomed the news, describing it as another boon for the Shire.

“Promoting greater economic activity is a real focus for this Council and it is certainly encouraging to see businesses like ALDI wanting to get a foothold here,” Cr McBain said.

“The finalisation of the sale means that locals and visitors alike will soon enjoy greater choice, the flow-on influence of greater competition and more modern and comfortable shopping conditions.

“Most importantly we also envisage that our small businesses will experience positive impacts through more people travelling to Merimbula and the area more broadly to shop and make it a destination visit,” Cr McBain said.
