The 150 plus female members of the Ararat Football Netball Club and Ararat Eagles Football Netball Club are just some of the locals who will benefit from the new competition netball courts with lighting and new female friendly clubrooms complete with indoor recreation space including a gym.

The development will be made possible with a $500,000 State Government Grant from the Female Friendly Facilities Fund and $470,000 from Ararat Rural City Council for two new netball courts, female friendly clubrooms and an indoor female recreation hub at Alexandra Oval.

Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Gwenda Allgood said the announcement was very exciting.

"One of the most exciting aspects of this project will be to improve netball facilities," she said.

"This includes construction of two new show courts at the rear of the Community Centre, which will mean on game days having a stronger sense of club unity by bringing football and netball into closer proximity of one another.

"Overall Stage 2 of the Alexandra Precinct will have wide-spread positive impact on the Ararat community and today’s announcement is an exciting step in that direction."

Dr Bridie O’Donnell from the Head Office for Women in Sport and Recreation said supporting facilities that cater for female recreation was of the highest improtance.

"Providing modern facilities is such an important factor in increasing participation for Victorian women and girls and I welcome today's funding boost that will inspire more females to get involved and join a club in Ararat," she said.
