Community consultation on the Smarter Parking Plan will end this week.

The Smarter Parking Plan Pop-Up Shop in Sturt Street will close at 6pm today due to tomorrow’s public holiday while the online survey will end at the close of business tomorrow.

Nearly two months of community consultation began on Monday 6 August and has included City of Ballarat staff providing information and receiving feedback at the Pop-Up Shop, ward think tank sessions with councillors and residents and a weekend community workshop.

An online survey has also been included on the City of Ballarat’s website.

To date, the survey shows:

53.0% support two-hour free parking per day in Zones 2 and 3 53.1% support managing your parking via a Smart Phone app 69.3% support topping up your parking time allocation from any meter in the CBD 14.8% support making parking bays close to the CBD more expensive 8.4% support extending paid parking in Zone to 7pm Monday to Saturday, and 75.3% support providing a free residential parking permit (with the option of a second or third one) to each household within the three zones

Of the respondents, 36.3% were workers, 34.4% residents, 15.1% others, 10.2% shoppers and 4.0% business owners.

The Smarter Parking Plan will now be revised based on the community consultation and will return to the council chamber later this year for debate.
