The reverse vending machine located in the Connell Park carpark continues to be well used by Bellingen Shire residents.

There has been litter left around the site and users are reminded that the red waste bins provided are for plastic bags and any boxes or recyclable containers not accepted by the machine should be crushed and taken home or placed into the yellow recycling bin. Remember to flatten any boxes to increase the space in this bin. If the litter issues in the area do not improve then Council may look at installing CCTV or removing the bins from the site.

Please do not place any household waste in this area, if you have additional waste or recycling that will not fit in your household bins please transport it to one of Council’s three waste management centres.

“The majority of people are doing the right thing with their boxes and plastic bags when they go to the RVM’ said Mayor Dominic King “Just a few people are doing the wrong thing and this is ruining it for everyone and making the entryway to our beautiful town unsightly.”

Most drinks containers between 150ml and three litres can get you a refund. They need to be in good condition (not broken or crushed), be empty and have the label attached. The containers can be made of:

Glass; Plastic; Aluminium; Steel; Or liquid paperboard (cartons).

Any containers that aren’t eligible for a refund can still be recycled through your household recycling bin, including cardboard boxes.
