Fairfield City residents of all ages are in for a treat this October with a wide range of free and interesting environmental workshops and events.
Enviro Bootcamp for school aged children kicks off on 2 October, the Community Nursery Open Day Spring Tour should delight the adults and two Bushcare groups meet, where the whole family can join in to meet like-minded people and help our environment.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the Enviro Bootcamp comprises nine fascinating free workshops for children aged between 5 and 12 during the school holidays at the Nalawala Sustainability Hub, Fairfield Showground.
“The bootcamp is a popular annual event and I encourage school aged children to experience the fun interactive workshops that will show you some of the very interesting facts about our local environment,” Mayor Carbone said.
“Children can repurpose clothes and jewellery to make something new and exciting to take home and wear, turn clean waste into art, plant and grow some vegetables, go for a bush walk, take beautiful nature photographs, have a barbecue and play with robots.
“Each day’s workshop is stand-alone and different, so you can just go to one day or all nine, whichever interest you.”
Registration is required. For more information or to book a place visit www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/envirobootcamp
“For older members of our community, I encourage you to join Council’s environmental experts on a fascinating bus tour that showcases recent environmental projects completed during the year,” Mayor Carbone said.
The tour leaves Council’s Administration Building on Saturday 13 October at 8.30am and returns at 12.30pm. To book call 9725 0222.
“For those who like to get their hands dirty and directly help our environment, then I recommend you get involved with the dedicated volunteers of the Flora Park or Sartor Bushcare groups,” Mayor Carbone said.
“There is no better feeling than meeting like-minded people and making a positive contribution to our community and preserving our wonderful natural bushland areas.”
The Flora Park Bushcare Group will meet on Saturday, 20 October, 9am-12pm at Christie Street, Prairiewood and the Sartor Bushcare Group will meet on Saturday, 27 October, 9am-12pm at the footpath on Sartor Crescent, Bossley Park. For more information call 9725 0222.
