Council seeking feedback on change to meeting procedure local law Published: 1 October 2018

Council is seeking feedback from the community on a proposed amendment to Council’s Meeting Procedure Local Law.

The proposed change would remove the opportunity for members of the public to ask supplementary questions during Public Question Time at Council meetings.

Community members would still be able to submit questions in writing before 12 noon on Council meeting days, however any further questions would need to be submitted in writing to be answered at the next Council meeting.

With the recent decision to broadcast all Council meetings live on Council’s website, this change is being considered to protect members of the public from possible legal action or safety concerns which could arise from supplementary questions that are potentially defamatory or breach privacy laws.

Council invites the community to provide written feedback on this proposed amendment to the Local Law. For information on how to submit feedback view the public notice on Council’s website at www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/haveyoursay

The closing date for submissions is 5pm, Monday 29 October 2018.
