Raising the profile of infant loss in our community
City of Boroondara 1 Oct 2018

Join us in lighting up the Hawthorn Arts Centre at a candle ceremony to commemorate infant loss.

On Monday 15 October, from 7pm to 9.15pm, the Hawthorn Arts Centre will host a candle ceremony and the outside of the building will be lit up in pink and blue. These are the colours of the Wave of Light movement that commemorates International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day globally.

Cr Felicity Sinfield have been working with local community member Anne-Maree Polimeni, mother of Rafael who was stillborn at 28 weeks, to raise awareness about the impact of infant loss in the community.

We welcome the decision of the Victorian Legislative Council to unanimously support a motion for Victoria to join other Australian States in recognising October 15 each year as International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

For families affected by stillbirth and infant loss it is a devastating time. By drawing attention to the issue the community can provide support to those affected.

This event is being run by SANDS Victoria through the assistance of Council's Annual Community Strengthening Grants and the Rotary Club of Balwyn.
