A draft strategy guiding Eurobodalla’s future tourism signage has been placed on public exhibition for community comment.
The draft Eurobodalla Tourism Wayfinding and Signage Strategy provides a framework for decisions on the location and style of future tourism signage to enhance visitor wayfinding across Eurobodalla.
It is limited to tourism-related signage needed for visitors travelling in vehicles to find their way safely and efficiently to tourism destinations and attractions. It does not apply to pedestrian wayfinding, signage at destinations, private/commercial signs, business identification signs or advertising.
The strategy includes principles and guidelines for choosing the right signage for particular circumstances, for locating signs and guidance for its implementation. The design and style of signage will be developed later this year to incorporate the results of Council’s tourism brand review and the creative marketing strategy.
Council’s Strategic Planning Officer (Environment) Angie Radford said effective tourism signage helped create visitor–friendly destinations.
“Effective tourism wayfinding and signage is important to help visitors learn about a destination and find their way around. It also encourages them to stop and stay,” she said.
“The draft strategy is part of a suite of Council initiatives to support the visitor economy, which employs approximately 25 per cent of Eurobodalla’s workforce.”
Once the strategy is adopted, signage would be progressively rolled out across the shire subject to funding.
The strategy was an action in Council’s Eurobodalla Destination Action Plan 2018-2021 and was co-funded by the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund and Council.
It is available to view on our website or in hard copy at the Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma libraries and Council’s Customer Service Centre in Moruya.
