Community Development Grants Awarded for 2018

48 non-profit organisation, groups and associations across Baw Baw Shire have been awarded a Community Development Grant to assist with projects, programs, equipment and events that contribute to our community.

The grants totalling $205,000 were awarded at the annual presentation evening last night, hosted by Baw Baw Shire Deputy Mayor Cr Danny Goss and Director Community Assets Cohen Van der Velde.

Cr Michael Leaney, Cr Peter Kostos, Cr Mikaela Power, Cr Jessica O'Donnell, Cr Keith Cook and Cr Tricia Jones were also in attendance supporting the successful community groups.

Deputy Mayor Cr Goss was pleased that Council was once again able to support the local community through the Community Development Grants program.

“We were pleased to see a broad selection of projects put forward for funding this year across all categories, demonstrating the diversity and creativity that exists in our community,” said the Deputy Mayor.

“We have so many hardworking and enthusiastic local volunteer groups who work together on these projects and programs providing opportunities, entertainment and improved facilities for the community.

"We thank and congratulate each group for their successful application and look forward to seeing these great projects being rolled out. As a Council, we’re proud to be able to support our local community groups to deliver projects that matter to them and make our community an even better place to live.”

Successful projects were allocated funding from four categories:

Environment Baw Baw Sustainability Network: $2,000 towards provision of valve cosies. Committee for Drouin, Friends of Drouin's Trees: $2,000 for the Birds of Drouin Education Kit. Drouin Croquet Club: $1,936 for the environment project water tank. Drouin Stationeers: $723 for enhancing the gardens at Drouin Station. Jindivick Progress Association: $1,000 Jindivick Sculpture Show. Thorpdale and District Bowling Club: $2,000 for the Pethybridge Park Accessibility project. Youth, Community Events and Programs Baw Baw L2P: $3,000 towards their Baw Baw L2P 10-year promotional booklet. Warragul Community House: $1,600 towards the Planter Box Plus project Minor Equipment Purchases Baw Baw Combined Churches Food Relief: $2,650 for the purchase and installation of a split system air conditioner. Baw Baw Food Hub: $4,200 for kitchen equipment. Drouids Hockey Club: $5,000 for community and spectator seating. Drouin Playgroup: $1,150 for wooden seating and a table. Frankie's Community Kitchen: $4,946 for a Community Kitchen upgrade. Hill End and Grove Rovers Football Netball Club: $1,715 for a community canteen freestanding oven. Longwarry Cricket Club: $4,450 towards purchasing cricket balls and playing shirts for the   2018/2019 season. Neerim South Recreation Reserve Committee of Management: $5,000 to purchase a small mobile spray unit and replace the cricket pitch cover. Probus Club of Drouin Hills: $2,898 to purchase a Projector and two laptops. Seaview Mechanic's Institute: $5,000 to purchase a split system air conditioner. Sonshine Toy Library: $3,800 for a computer and printer upgrade. St Joseph's Chorale: $4,009 for equipment purchases. The Warragul Hub: $5,000 to purchase play equipment for the Crazy Cow Activity Centre. Thorpdale Multi-purpose Complex: $5,000 for a flooring upgrade. Thorpdale Primary School Council: $10,000 for safety fencing. Trafalgar Park Bowls Club: $2,170 for croquet equipment. Trafalgar Ping Pong Kings: $2,550 for table tennis tables and nets. Warragul District Kennel and Obedience Club: $288 for dog agility fencing. Walhalla Cricket Club: $4,785 for a seating and signage project. Warragul and District Garden Club: $4,136 for a mobility project. Warragul and District Netball Association: $5,000 toward a safety initiative. Warragul Boxing Club: $3,380 for replacement equipment. Warragul Farmers Market: $2,000 for new signage. Warragul Municipal Band: $1,500 to replace a bass drum. Warragul Poultry Club: $5,000 toward re-cladding the club premises. Warragul Swim Club: $5,000 toward new touch pads. Warragul Uniting Church: $3,240 for a defibrillator project. Warranor Netball Club: $4,554 for team uniforms. West Gippsland Relic, Mining and Heritage Protection Incorporate: $4,897 for Aberfeldy Track maintenance equipment. Willow Grove Community Centre: $1,500 for a public address system. Minor Capital Works Bellbird Park Hockey Committee of Management: $10,000 toward community and spectator shelters. Darnum Memorial Hall: $7,673 for a carpark upgrade. Hallora Cricket Club: $6,476 for a net upgrade. Warragul Primary School Parents Club: $10,000 for a playground project. Warragul and District Light Harness Club: $6,050 for safety fencing. Warragul Cricket Club: $5,824 for installation of a synthetic turf wicket. Warragul Harness Racing Club: $10,000 for home straight fencing. Warragul North Primary School Parent Club: $10,000 for Rubbertough playground surfacing. Warranor Junior Football Club: $10,000 for an electronic scoreboard and siren. Yarragon Public Hall Committee: $10,000 toward a room project. Images
