Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller officially opened a new Water Play Splash Park at the Michael Wenden Aquatic Leisure Centre on 28 September.

The circular splash park has been designed for young children and toddlers and has many fun features, including splash blasters and tower sprays.

“The children of the Miller community now have their very own aquatic facility so they can enjoy playing with water in a safe environment,” Mayor Waller said.

“After the positive feedback that Council received from the water play feature at Bigge Park, we decided to extend the fun and joy to Miller – just in time for the warmer months.”

The $400,000 splash park took six months to design and build and was constructed over the old children’s pool.

Mayor Waller said the Michael Wenden Aquatic Leisure Centre now has a range of aquatic facilities for people of all abilities and is a great place to learn how to swim.

“It’s important children don’t have a fear of water – they should be respectful of it but not fearful of it – and a splash park ticks all the boxes.

"Hopefully it introduces children to swim classes and other programs that help them enjoy water in a safe place,” she said.

“Council is committed to building welcoming community spaces that connect people and provide respite from the busy city life.

“For many of the new families joining us, the local aquatic centre may offer their first point of contact with the wider Liverpool family.

“I’m sure that many wonderful memories will be made at the Water Play Splash Park and I encourage local families to come along and enjoy it.

“We are in for another hot summer so it’s important that residents have places they can go to cool off.”

As well as the Michael Wenden Aquatic Leisure Centre, there are swimming pools at the Whitlam Leisure Centre and Holsworthy-Wattle Grove Aquatic Education Centre, and the water play area in Bigge Park.
