Funding boost for Lavington Sports Ground

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres and Member for Albury Greg Aplin joined Mayor Kevin Mack for the funding announcement which will ensure the third and final phase of the redevelopment is completed.

The revamped Lavington Sports Ground precinct will cater to netball, football, cricket, soccer and AFL at all levels, and soon be able to host elite Country Rugby League.

"Greg Aplin’s strong advocacy for the completion of this project will mean more sporting grounds can continue to enjoy high quality, affordable sporting facilities," Mr Ayres said.

Mr Aplin said the $3.1 million funding will mean new grandstand seating, upgrades to netball facilities, new ticket entry turnstiles, improved disabled access, unisex change rooms and seating for visitors.

“This upgrade will put Albury firmly on the map as a premier sports hub and mean more people of all ages can get out and get active and enjoy a multitude of sports.

“The NSW Government is investing in the right kind of regional sporting facilities to ensure communities go from strength to strength.”

AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack welcomed news of the funding, which he said will complement project stage one and two funding from the Australian Football League (AFL), the Commonwealth Government, Albury Council and Lavington Panthers.

“The redevelopment of the ground has been in the pipeline for some time and this funding will allow us to get on with delivering a first-class venue,” Cr Mack said.

“It is a great project that will benefit everyone from the Panthers Netball and Cricket clubs, to players and fans of the Big Bash League, AFL and the AFL Women’s league.”
